Between November 7th and 10th, several TRICK project partners engaged in the ECOMONDO fair held in Rimini, Italy to showcase the project's progress. TRICK had a notable presence at the booth coordinated by SMI, providing an excellent platform for dissemination among various textile companies and interested stakeholders. This opportunity facilitated meaningful exchanges and the exploration of potential collaborations.
Simultaneously, three events unfolded during the fair, which we will detail below:
Grassi, Enea, ETP and UPC participated in a joint event titled”How to pave the way to the future Digital Product Passport: two use cases from textile and appliance industries”, with CIRCTHREAD, the other call project, initiated by UNI, aimed at disscussing the adoption of the future digital product passport. More details about the event can be found on the CIRCTHREAD website. The event featured valuable insights from experts representing ECOWISE, ERION, CENLEC, GS1, APPLiA Europe and Euroconsumers.
The workshop encompassed diverse discussions, commencing with explorations of the project pilots' use cases. Carla Fité initiated the discourse by diving into the project's objectives and provided insights into the ongoing initiatives within the pilots. Subsequently, Daniela Ferroni outlined Grassi's participation in the project and the company approach towards sustainability and circularity. She elucidated how the TRICK platform would enhance traceability, facilitating the ongoing circular transition within the company, and addressing the urgent need for adoption of the DPP which projects like TRICK will actively support.
In the second segment, Piero di Sabbata and Lutz Walter tackled the topic of standardization. Lutz Walter, representing the ETP, discussed the primary challenges associated with traceability adoption, specifically linked to the DPP, and provided insights into how companies can initiate their response to these challenges. Following this, Piero di Sabbata spoke about the role of standardization, emphasizing the distinctive nature of the TRICK open data model tailored for the textile sector. He highlighted key aspects such as data model requirements, the product identification, and compliance with the DPP.
Micole Battelli from SSSA, concluded this insightful day by sharing the results obtained from the survey on consumer behavior to understand the importance of the consumer perspective on the new regulation. These results are available here.
A workshop centered around the textile district brought together participants from SMI, ETP, UCP, and ENEA. Its primary objective was to underscore the essential role of traceability tools in the textile value chain and highlight the key benefits offered by the TRICK platform services, with a particular emphasis on its traceability backbone.
Mauro Sampellegrini from SMI initiated the session, providing the audience with a contextual overview of the project. Following this introduction, Judith Bosch presented insights from the market analysis conducted on the project, shedding light on current traceability needs and outlining the project's upcoming steps to position the TRICK platform in the market. Carla Fité, representing UPC, shared results from a workshop held during the ECOSYSTEX conferences in Barcelona. The main outcomes were the identification of barriers, challenges and needs, along with the priority actions for implementing traceability solutions based on market availability, current needs, and upcoming regulatory constraints, with a specific focus on the DPP.
Finally, Piero di Sabbata, from ENEA, delved into the functionality and key advantages of the TRICK Traceability platform, emphasizing the workflow of traceability services and highlighting its distinctive features.
Carla Fité presented TRICK among various initiatives at the event on Operational and Assessment Tools for the Management of Materials and Energy in a Circular Economy. It was organized by the Ecomondo Scientific Technical Committee, Italian Chemical Society – Division Environmental and Cultural Heritage Chemistry, ATIA – ISWA, and the Italian LCA Network Association – WG Waste Management and Treatment, featured presentations and posters from the Call for Papers 2023. Fité's presentation provided an overarching view of the project, emphasizing the integration of blockchain technologies for enhanced traceability. Additionally, she offered a summary of the current status of the TRICK platform's development and outlined the focus on upcoming pilots in the following year.
