The paper “The role of advanced technologies in cross-border trade: A customs perspective” is a collaboration co-published by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2022.

Based on the results of the WCO’s 2021 Annual Consolidated Survey and its Chapter 4 on disruptive technologies, the paper aims to better understand how leveraging the latest technologies can support customs authorities in international trade to promote trade facilitation. It highlights the benefits and obstacles when adopting the following three important areas of advanced technology:

  1. Blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT)
  2. Internet of things (IoT)
  3. Big data, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning

The TRICK Project was presented to the WCO by the Italian Customs Agency - Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM) in WCO’s 2021 Annual Consolidated Survey. As a result, TRICK was mentioned in the paper as one of the examples of use under Blockchain and distributed ledger technology.

TRICK warmly invites you to read the full paper and TRICK’s section on pages 17 and 18 under the following links:
